Abstract
Various techniques associated with lean manufacturing, including workplace organization and visual management, quick changeover, quality at the source, cellular manufacturing, and pull scheduling are discussed. Quick changeover, or set-up reduction, is a systematic means of reducing the time a piece of production equipment is down, when changing from one product to the next. Cellular or flow manufacturing is when all of the resources required to complete the product are grouped together. A pull system will control and balance the resources required to produce a product and is effective in reducing non-value-added activities.
