Abstract
In this paper we examine the relationship between marriage, motherhood and the degree of incongruence between female engineers and scientists' self-perceptions and their managers' perceptions of their promotability. Women's self-perceptions and their managers' perceptions of their promotability are farthest apart when women are married or mothers. These results are net of differences in past performance, education, experience, attitudes, and approaches toward work. ©2005 IEEE.
