Abstract
People of all ages, specially old ages, must interact with some form of technology on a regular basis and must be adapted to any kind of information system. Online communities may expand social opportunities for older people and provide a mechanism for social interaction and online courses expand educational options. It is believed that computer technology has enormous potential for improving the quality of life for older adults and their families. The needs and the abilities of older adults must be considered in a system design for the full potential of technology to be realized for these populations. A detailed information on user preferences and needs, problems with existing systems and efficacy of design solutions are important for ensuring that older people are able to adapt successfully. Designers must become aware of the characteristics of older adults and ensure that systems are designed with capabilities and limitations of the older user in mind.
