Composite magnet solution for high performance green drive

Abstract
A composite magnet solution is proposed and we show that with an optimized magnet solution, the drive performance can be improved for the high capacity hard disk drive (HDD). Or in an alternative approach, the high capacity HDD can maintain its performance with reduced power consumption. The same magnet solution was not pronounced previously. One of the most appealing aspects of this technology solution is that the cost to implement this technology is minimal. In some applications, it may be at a lower cost when using it in the high capacity HDD products. Since the growth of all three major HDD metrics: areal density, drive capacity and drive performance, has slowed down, a solid improvement of drive performance with additional cost benefit will provide significant incentive to the HDD customers.
