Abstract
The "plasticized melt" spinning of Soy Protein/PVA blends at Soy contents of ≥ 20% has been demonstrated. The resulting fibers are suitable for textile and non-woven applications. These blend solutions have also been electrospun to create nanofiber, high void volume cell culture scaffolds. Electrospinning of soy protein gels has also been demonstrated. Initial cell culture results indicate that these scaffolds are effective substrates for cell attachment and proliferation and may provide an attractive alternative to animal proteins in some biomedical applications.
