Abstract
Explicit asymptotic solutions of the characteristic equations are derived for the propagation constants of TM and TE modes in the leaky-wave range for a dielectric layer with or without a metal ground-plane backing. The expressions derived for the phase and attenuation constants of the leaky waves become increasingly accurate as the frequency is lowered. © 1990 IEEE
