Abstract
One important function of a digital video system is the decoding of the composite video signal into luminance and chrominance components. This paper presents an estimation scheme and its polyphase finite-duration impulse-response (FIR) filter implementation for the demodulation of composite chrominance signal into color difference components such as in-phase (I) and quadrature-phase (Q) components. The scheme applies to any system whose sampling frequency is related to the color subcarrier frequency by a rational factor. The paper also shows that at the most popular, yet in many applications over designed sampling frequency of four times subcarrier frequency, the demodulation scheme degenerates into the well known scheme of 2-to-1 subsampling, sign reversal, and interpolation. © 1991 IEEE
