Abstract
Fluctuation and ensemble analysis techniques are investigated to understand the single-channel dynamics of calcium channels of hippocampal neurons. Classical voltage-clamp techniques are used to record the whole-cell calcium currents in hippocampal neurons which were dissociated from adult mice. Fluctuation analysis results indicate two frequencies (two open times), in contrast to the results obtained by classical techniques which indicated single frequency (single open time). The unitary current values obtained by classical techniques are slightly higher than the values obtained by using the ensemble analysis procedure.
