Abstract
The propagation of TE polarized guided waves in a nonlinear tapered waveguide, consisting of a linear substrate, a linear film and a Kerr-type nonlinear cladding, is studied both numerically and analytically using the equivalent particle theory. Our results show that the behavior of the beam in the tapered waveguide can be characterized in terms of an equivalent particle moving in a varying effective potential. © 1993.
