Abstract
Supplier evaluation and selection is an important task of purchasing management. Value can be added to a company’s output and direct contributions are often made to the firm’s profitability through the supplier selection process. Evaluation of suppliers is based in industrial purchases on choice criteria which are derived from the purchase motives of the organization. While long lists of potential criteria have been identified in the purchasing/ marketing literature, the number and nature of criteria employed depends on the specifics of the situation, such as product differences, price levels, and criticality to the production processes. © 1993 MCB UP Limited
