Abstract
Resolving conflicts of evidence regarding the exact location of property boundaries is not a simple task. It requires a careful examination of the evidence of legal boundaries and claims of ownership of each parcel, weighing the relative importance of the evidence, and rendering conclusions in accordance with the hierarchy of evidence recorded in statutory law, court cases, and the administrative code. A systematic method for the determination of property lines from deeds and other sources is discussed in this paper. A weighted transformation method was developed for use when attempting to resolve potential conflicts of evidence. Examples of practical implementation of the methodology are presented. The systematic analysis tool should enable professional land surveyors to engage in precise GIS/LIS parcel boundary determination, using their spatial and legal expertise. To further this objective, an important requirement at the design stage was to keep the procedure as simple as possible and, easy to implement.
