Two-dimensional HiBi fiber-optic coil strain sensor

Abstract

A HiBi fiber optic coil strain sensor is proposed in this paper. It can be used to test arbitrarily direction strain in two-dimensional of the coil plane. The sensor's sensitivity can be easily changed by increase or decrease the number of the coil turns. The test results show an excellent linearity between the observed phase change and the strain measured with resistive gage in tension.
