Abstract
Tube flow elastic recovery is employed to measure the normal stresses of an experimental liquid, polyacrylamide, and an industrial liquid, kraft black liquor. It is shown that the elastic recovery provides a reasonable method to measure normal stresses where the conditions of interest are difficult to reproduce in standard measurement techniques. Tube flow elastic recovery assumptions are tested for the liquids under study. New normal stress measurement data is presented for the kraft black liquor and it is shown to be a function of shear rate and temperature.
