Abstract
The purpose of this Senior Design project was to build a viable alternative to the audible alarm found on a commercial ventilator unit. The alternate alarm was needed because the caretaker to a patient on the ventilator was hearing-impaired and needed a non-auditory system to be alerted to the alarm. Two viable options for the alarm were considered: a visible, light-based system, and a vibratory-motion, wireless transmitter-receiver system. The second option was chosen because of its practicality, efficiency, and low-cost effectiveness. This paper will discuss the background of the project, the progression of the project, encountered problems, and the performance of the finished project.
