Abstract
There has been extensive research on integrating multimedia capabilities into mobile communications. One of the key issues is the efficient allocation of radio and network resources for multimedia applications that exhibit bursty traffic with fractal dimensions. This paper investigates burst switching technique for channel allocation of aggregate bursty traffic in a slotted CDMA system. The burst switching technique utilizes an optimal timer that releases the channel when an idle time begins. Hence, the dedicated channels are allocated for the duration of the burst of data so that the allocation delay is decreased while channel utilization is increased. © 1999 IEEE.
