Abstract
The field of MEMS poses special challenges for education and training because MEMS are so multidisciplinary in nature. Consequently, the MEMS industry is hampered by a shortage of graduates with the appropriate combination of skills required to service the industry's exponential growth. In this paper, we describe the development and implementation of an integrated program for education, research and training within the scope of MEMS to meet this growing need. The program combines industry-driven research activities with academic programs from a wide variety of disciplines to create a comprehensive degree structure with technological, management and social aspects. The innovation of our evolving curriculum lies in the unique combination of technological innovation tied to industry interactions with methodologies of entrepreneurship and commercialization.
