Abstract
This paper present the results of an experimental investigation on removing colloidal particles from stormwater runoff by microcarrier process. The mechanisms of the microcarrier process involve particle capturing, suspension and sedimentation. The results indicated that this process is effective in treating stormwater runoff. The removal rate for particle count, turbidity, suspended solids and volatile solids reach 96% and higher. The total treatment include a 30-second mixing with a 3-minute settling, a substantial time reduction from that of the conventional approach. This rapid treatment indicates that the microcarrier process has the capacity to treat large volumes of surface runoff during a storm event.
