Abstract
In this paper we present a study of different geolocation updating schemes for location aware service provisioning and analyze the ways to their optimization. We propose a hybrid periodic/predictive updating method, in which adaptive update intervals derived from the geolocation information received from the mobile are used for MSs with dominant direction of movement. Algorithm for detecting MSs with a dominant direction of movement is proposed. This geolocation update scheme reduces the signaling load by a factor of two, and opens the way for optimal geolocation updating.
