Abstract
Nonlinear optical properties of silicon nanoclusters (NC) made by laser ablation and ion implantation were investigated using femtosecond Z-scan and pump-probe measurements. The investigation was carried out using amplified pulses at 50 kHz to reduce the thermal contribution to nonlinearity. The nonlinear susceptibility had the same magnitude at 810 nm as at 375 nm with a change in sign indicating long wavelength resonance. The nonlinearity was found to be dominated by nonlinear absorption due to the associated structural damage.
