Abstract
Following the publication of the original article [1], it was noted that three of the authors were editorial board members of the journal at the time of the submission of the manuscript and therefore it should have been declared in the ethics declarations. The correct competing interest statement is given below. Bing Chen, Kenneth Lee and Baiyu Zhang are editorial board members of Environmental Systems Research. The authors have no further conflicts of interest to declare.
