Abstract

As world container continues to grow, the issue of infrastructure improvement and expansion becomes an urgent one. The Port of New York/New Jersey has more than 80% of their cargo distributed locally. The tremendous truck trips generated at marine container terminals (MCTs) have a direct bearing on the local highways and arterial roads. This research analyzes the casual relationship between vessel container traffic pattern, terminal gate transactions and truck trip generation patterns. The results will help planners bettering the understanding of the complexity of truck activities at MCTs and take these factors into consideration when planning land access improvement. © ASCE.
