Abstract
Near infrared (NIR) light energy has been used in medical applications both for diagnostic and treatment purposes. Temperature elevation is the main concern in the neural tissue when illuminated with NIR light. In this report, an NIR light beam was pulsed into a rat brain cortex. The spatial maps of temperature elevation inside the neural tissue were measured directly using a micro probe. The results indicate that the temperature inside the neural tissue saturates with increasing levels of laser power. © 2011 IEEE.
